18. Aug 1966 – Isle of Skye

Another holiday in Scotland, this is the last of Dad’s slides that I have, for now (more are coming). We rented a cottage on the Isle of Skye, not far from Portree. I remember it very well; especially the day we drove up into the spectacular Cuillin Range; I was in the back of the car, and I looked up out of the rear window at one point to glimpse a golden eagle swooping above us. I remember seeing its yellow talons clearly before it disappeared. Unforgettable!

We took home a little West Highland White terrier, Hamish. He was the runt of his litter, and he had a hole in his heart so sadly only lived for about a year with us, bless his soul.

Dad got 38 photos out of this 36-frame slide film. Is that a record?

    Hi William

I looked at all your photos and several reminded me of my English Uncle George Russell’s life refurbishing sailing boats and boat engines based in Lichfield Staffs, then developing a boat transfer service for wealthy families in northern Europe wanting their boats taken by sea to and/or from their Mediterranean sailing holidays.  He trained his son Andrew Russell who now operates the business from Denmark where he married and obtained permanency.

Another son of Wiiliam Fairfax Russell (my mother’s father) was Bill Russell whose son Simon (our age) recently moved to Wales and is running for local govt.  But no obvious links there without me digging a lot.

    Anyway, thx again for sharing

Very interesting, thank you! I’m glad they triggered some memories.
      I hope you’re well.
